Intensity of Interventions for Hearing Loss – Colorado

Mallene Wiggin, PhD, University of Colorado (Funded 2018)

This project involves analyzing the data from two large datasets. Both datasets include expressive/receptive language (spoken and signed), developmental, demographic, audiological, and intervention variables. One dataset is from a population study in one state where the intervention system is uniform within the state. The second dataset is from a national sample of 15 states with varying intervention systems. This funding will support an investigation to determine if and how the intensity (i.e. frequency and duration) of EI services impacts language outcomes in D/HH children. This study has the potential for significant public health impact because systems can be developed, and financial resources can be directed to services for children/families who are at highest risk.
